What is Vacation Bible School?

CSCM4Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a popular outreach where Wooden Cross youth, their friends, and children from the community are invited to attend a high energy week of fun.  Together they’ll hear the life changing message of God’s love and grace. For some, it could be the first time they’ve heard how much Jesus loves them and wants them to be a part of God’s family. This is what makes VBS an amazing summer children's experience.

Typically held in July, VBS is a week-long program (Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM—12:00 NOON).  Participating children range in age from 3 years (must be potty trained) to kids entering 6th grade in the upcoming Fall school year. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged to help with the cost of the program. Pre-registration is encouraged.

VBS is put on by teen and adult volunteers. Kids in 7th grade or older are welcome to help, and can earn up to 20 community service hours for school. And there are lots of opportunities for parent volunteers.  Planning begins in early spring.

How does the program work?

VBS_2010_pic_2The children start each morning in the sanctuary in pre-selected groups called Crews.  Through high energy worship, songs and video clips, they’ll hear what’s in store for them for that day.  Then the exploration of exciting stations begins:  Bible stories, Crafts, Games, Chadder Chipmunk and creative VBS Theme Snacks.  Each morning ends in the Sanctuary for a music wrap-up of the morning.

VBS focuses on one key biblical concept daily. Children also learn one important Bible Point which is reinforced through stories, scripture, songs and hands-on activities that help kids know more about God's wonderful love. Each day the children will learn something new about the character of God.
