Cherishing God's Creation PDF Print

Nature is the embodiment of God Himself.  To better care for and honor His wondrous world, our goal is to live a more sustainable lifestyle, and thus become better stewards of God’s creation.

A Sustainable Lifestyle.

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability provides for current needs without sacrificing the needs of future generations.  Sustainable practices require that we evaluate how our decisions today will affect society, the environment and the economies of the future. It acknowledges that healthy functioning societies and economies depend on healthy ecosystems.  Some key principles include:

  • Reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and limited the use of raw materials
  • Reducing waste, reusing or recycling materials
  • Reducing dependence on synthetic compounds
  • Reversing the decline of our natural resources
  • Anticipating and preventing problems in the future

Making Sustainable Choices at Home

  • Buy durable, reusable, energy-efficient products
  • Avoid single-use, disposable items
  • Use reusable bags for shopping
  • Compost organic materials such as food waste

Out Shopping

  • Shop at local farmers markets
  • Use locally produced materials
  • Support locally owned, independent businesses
  • Buy from stores that engage in fair labor practices

In the Environment

  • Use drip irrigation or water only early or late in the day
  • Use mulch around planting to retain moisture
  • Mulch mow to recycle the nutrients in grass clippings
  • Prevent air and groundwater contamination by avoiding the use of chemicals in your garden
