Our Faith... What we believe

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God-not the result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Grace is the love of God, embodied in Jesus Christ, that makes us the holy and beloved people of God. The gospel, or the good news, tells us we do nothing to earn this love. It is absolutely free, on the house, pure gift. The story of human sin is the story of our rebellion against God. We place ourselves first, before God. In spite of this, God never abandons us. Rather, God embraces us with lavish generosity, conquering death on our behalf and offering us life. In every way, in everything we do, in all we are, god is for us. This is grace.

We confess our faith in many ways, but the most direct example is through the Lords Prayer and the Apostles Creed.

Lords Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen

Apostles Creed

 I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Amen.
